Luhya Base Mathare Endorses Tim Wanyonyi for Nairobi Governor in 2027

Luhya Base Mathare Community-Based Organization (CBO) have endorsed Westlands MP Hon. Tim Wanyonyi for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the upcoming 2027 elections. During a courtesy call to Hon. Wanyonyi at his private offices today, the CBO leadership expressed their gratitude for his continued support and vowed to rally behind him as he prepares for his second bid for the governor’s position. The Luhya Base Mathare CBO, established in 2020, with a membership of over 1,000 members plays a critical role in empowering its members through various welfare programs.
Anthony Were, Patron of the Luhya Base, thanked Hon. Wanyonyi for his hospitality and pledged the group’s support for his 2027 gubernatorial campaign. “We are grateful to Hon. Tim Wanyonyi, who we consider the incoming Governor of Nairobi, for welcoming us. Our meeting was fruitful, and we’ve laid the groundwork for future partnerships. Hon. Wanyonyi has pledged support for a project that is close to our hearts, and we are confident that he will secure the gubernatorial seat in 2027,” said Were.
George Ouma Odinga, Chairman of Luhya Base Mathare, echoed similar sentiments, highlighting Wanyonyi’s longstanding commitment to the community. “We came here today to thank Hon. Wanyonyi for his unwavering support. He has always been there for us, backing our activities and initiatives. Today, we formally endorsed his bid for Nairobi Governor in 2027. Our organization is determined to rally Mathare and the wider Luhya community to stand behind him. We also submitted a proposal on future partnerships, and we are excited about the journey ahead,” said Odinga.
In his remarks, Hon. Tim Wanyonyi expressed gratitude for the endorsement and reaffirmed his commitment to working with the Luhya Base Mathare team. “I thank the Luhya Base team for coming today. It reminds me of the biblical stories of those who return to give thanks. I see your commitment and your generosity. We will walk together, building on the progress we’ve made. I am committed to supporting your welfare activities, which focus on uplifting the living and creating economic empowerment," said Wanyonyi. He emphasized the importance of empowering the Luhya community, the largest demographic in Nairobi, and called on the group to continue working together to strengthen their economic position. “If you support me in my bid for Nairobi Governor, I will not let you down. Together, we will implement programs that will empower everyone, and my doors will always be open. The journey we started has no reverse gear, and this time, we will liberate ourselves and build a better Nairobi. The Luhya community must rise to the occasion, and I am ready to lead that charge,” he added. Hon. Tim Wanyonyi, who ran for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in 2022 under the ODM ticket, stepped down in favour of Polycarp Igathe as part of a political agreement within the Azimio coalition. Igathe, however, lost to Johnson Sakaja of UDA in the Kenya Kwanza coalition. Having returned to his role as MP for Westlands, Hon. Wanyonyi has continued to serve his constituency, where he enjoys widespread support for his development record and straightforward leadership style. Now, as he eyes the 2027 Nairobi gubernatorial race, Wanyonyi is positioning himself as a frontrunner, leveraging his strong performance in Parliament and his dedication to serving the people of Nairobi.
